Meet Meagan, Jessica and the Education Dogs

Levon Helm
Levon

Levon is a Golden Retriever who was surrendered to the Guelph Humane Society with a broken leg. After his successful surgery, he helped his leg to heal by working out (and blowing bubbles!) in a special swimming therapy tank just for dogs. Now Levon can do pretty much everything, including daily wrestling matches with his dog brother Yasgur and cat brother Manson. Favourite pastimes include stealing socks, playing in the snow and shamelessly requesting belly rubs from anyone who will give them!

Maizie
Maizie

Maizie is a Golden Doodle who loves her job! School is her favourite place-she waits at the window every morning for the ride that will take her to the kids the loves so much. She is a cuddler who is not shy about jumping for joy at the sight of her favourite adults-she seems to especially enjoy all of the secretaries who work at the schools she visits. When Maizie is not working, she loves swimming in her dinosaur pool, trying to eat people food and wagging her tail constantly with a big smile on her face!

Meagan Middleton

Meagan and Muddy

Meagan always wanted to be in the business of helping people to be the best kind of humans possible. Growing up in a house filled with animals made her realize early on how the love, care and treatment of all animals was integral in good humanship. While earning a Child and Youth Studies degree at Brock University, Meagan worked at a vet clinic where she became passionate about humane education. After teacher's college, she came to Guelph and realized this dream job actually existed and has been working at the Guelph Humane Society ever since! During her time at GHS, she has expanded the Humane Values program to include March Break and Summer Camps. Meagan has also worked on curriculum development, group presentations and the volunteer program.     When she is not teaching in schools or acting like a big kid at the shelter, she spends her life with her cat Nitten and a continual rotation of foster kittens. Someday when she has more time on her hands, she hopes to rival Jessica's animal brood! Meagan feels blessed to work with such amazing animals and young people and is delighted to assist the Guelph Humane Society with the development of awesome humans in our community!

Jessica Ing
For the last 11 years Jessica has worked as a Humane Educator and Volunteer Coordinator   with different animal welfare organizations. During her time as an educator she has developed and delivered a diverse range of programs that includes recreational programs such as camps and clubs, school based presentations and organization tours, as well as adult presentations, workshops and animal assisted therapy programs. In 2008 Jessica began working as an independent educator and founded her own Humane Education business called Animals Teach. Through her business Jessica creates animal-based educational programming tailored to the needs of different groups and ages. When not having a howl teaching, Jessica cares for a collection of adopted critters that include three dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, chickens, a parrot, tropical fish, her very patient spouse and her son Jack. Jessica is delighted to be part of the Guelph Humane Society Education team and looks forward to helping advance the exciting goals and invaluable mission of the Society.
